The rapper and actor known as Da Brat, whose real name is Jerlisa “Bunny” Brown, spent her childhood in the hood of Inglewood. Her raunchy lyrics have made for a career that’s done well for herself despite some controversy throughout her years in the game.

The “da brat parents” is a rapper who was born in the United States. She has released six albums, two of which were certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Her most successful album to date is her debut album, “Unrestricted”, which went triple platinum and sold over 3 million copies worldwide.

Funkdafied During the 1990s, Da Brat was one of the first of a new generation of hard-edged female MCs to emerge on the hip-hop scene. Da Brat established her name as a harsh, vulgar rhymer whose hardcore attitude and lyrical abilities were never in question; instead, she built her reputation as a tough, profane rhymer whose hardcore attitude and lyrical skills were never in doubt. Da Brat was born Shawntae Harris in 1974 in Chicago and began rapping at the age of 11. She was found by producer Jermaine Dupri in 1992, while still a teenager, when she won an amateur rap contest and met Dupri’s protégés Kris Kross. Dupri recruited her to his So So Def label and produced her first album, Funkdafied, in 1994, thanks to their support. The title tune was a huge success, reaching number two on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and staying over three months at the top of the Hot Rap Singles list. Its popularity, along with the success of the songs Fa All Y’All and Give It 2 You, enabled Da Brat become the first female rapper to achieve a platinum-selling album. Funkdafied also debuted at number one on the R&B Albums chart, a remarkable feat for a female rapper’s first album.

Da Brat gained more control of her music and image with her 1996 follow-up, Anuthatantrum, earning successes with “Sittin’ on Top of the World” and “Ghetto Love.” The album was a financial triumph, propelling her back into the R&B Top 5 and the mainstream Top 20. Da Brat made high-profile guest appearances on songs by Mariah Carey, Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott, Total, Dru Hill, and Lil’ Kim, among others, in the aftermath. In 1996, she made her cinematic debut in Shaquille O’Neal’s comedy Kazaam. Da Brat was jailed on assault charges just before the release of her third album in 2000, after reportedly pistol-whipping another lady after an argument at an Atlanta nightclub. She subsequently pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of reckless conduct and was given a fine, probation, and community service in exchange for her cooperation. Meanwhile, her album Unrestricted was released in the spring of 2000, and it featured a much sexier picture of her. It was her second R&B chart-topper, as well as her largest album on the Billboard 200, reaching the Top Five. Her songs “That’s What I’m Looking For” and “What’Chu Like” were also successes. Da Brat made her big-screen comeback with Mariah Carey’s ill-fated film Glitter in 2001, and her solo follow-up, Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz, was released in 2003.

Da Brat co-starred in the fourth season of VH1’s reality show The Surreal Life and was featured on a remix of Dem Franchize Boyz’ smash song “I Think They Like Me” a few years later. Despite the popularity of the song, it did not re-ignite her career in music. She worked with other singers on occasion and performed alongside Mariah Carey throughout the following several years. A jail term for violent violence hampered Da Brat’s development. In 2013, she released “Is It Chu,” a song on her Rare Breed label. Her career took off a few years later when she was named co-host of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show. She then appeared in an Empire episode and recorded a song called “#YAK (You Already Know)” with Sage the Gemini and Eric Bellinger.

The “da brat wedding” is a celebrity that has been in the spotlight for many years. Da Brat was born on November 20th, 1973 and married her husband in 2014.
