Sandra Oh recently opened up about the rumor that she might return to ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy as Cristina Yang’s replacement. She shares, “I heard the rumor… what I heard was that she was getting her sitcom off the ground. I don’t know if I could give up the time off. I feel like right now, I’m really enjoying being home with my family. I feel very grateful for the opportunity to have my family close.”
On the heels of the recent news that Sandra Oh will be returning to Grey’s Anatomy, the actress has addressed the rumors herself, saying it’s completely untrue. “I heard this rumor this week, and no, I’m not on Grey’s Anatomy. I’m on Kinky Boots on Broadway,” she said. “I was at the airport on my way to Los Angeles for work on Grey’s Anatomy, and I was reading the trades that week, and it was just the rumor that had the word ‘return’ in it, and I thought it was ridiculous, because if you know me, I don’t go along with rumors.”
Gossip blog RealityTea (which is owned by blog network WealthyWomen) is reporting that Sandra Oh will return to “Grey’s Anatomy” in season 11 with a significant role. The actor will play the role of the new Chief of Surgery, replacing departing star Alex Karev (Justin Chambers). Fans of “Grey’s Anatomy” may finally put their dreams of seeing Sandra Oh reprise her famous role Dr. Cristina Yang to rest, as the actress has said that the long-running medical drama is a thing of the past for her.
Fans were eagerly anticipating her return in Season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy, as her character, Dr. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), battled the high-stakes battle over COVID.
Meredith slipped into a coma, allowing the show’s creators to stage the beloved characters’ long-awaited resurrection, which viewers had only imagined.
Meredith Shepherd first met the following in the afterlife, either in her dreams or in the afterlife, alongside her husband Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). Other characters, including as George O’Malley (T.R. Knight), Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh), and Mark Sloan, entered the scene after Derek’s arrival at the beach (Eric Dane).
April Kepner (Sarah Drew) also had a reunion with her ex-husband, Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), which demonstrated the closure of “Japril.”
Sandra Oh addressed her fans’ expectations during her appearance on E! News’ Daily Pop on Aug. 20 despite the popular request. “Grey’s Anatomy” is already a closed book, according to the actor.
She stated, “It’s truly a period in my past.” “Also, you know what I mean when I say [I’m] completely comprehending the profound connection that people have with Cristina? I was just saying that I believe a lot of people re-watched Grey’s Anatomy during the epidemic since it is such a friendly show. It’s an honor to have been on a program like that,” she said.
Sandra Oh, a Grey’s Anatomy alum, will star in Netflix’s The Chair.
Her adoring admirers will have to settle with watching Oh in a medical scrub suit as Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, the first woman of color to become head of a failing English department, in Netflix’s “The Chair.”
“What attracted me to Professor Kim was the intricacy of how she navigated all of her relationships as a daughter, a mother, an employer, a friend, and a teacher,” Oh said.
Sandra Oh shared the news on Instagram ahead of the debut, demonstrating how her new role as Dr. Kim is the ideal “bookend” to her popular character Dr. Yang on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.”

The actress titled her caption “Then & Now” showing the perfect connection of her two roles with Dr. Kim’s first scene entering her office and immediately falling off her chair which is in parallel to Dr. Yang’s final Grey’s scene exiting her office in Grey Sloan becoming a director of cardiothoracic surgery in Zurich.
Both sequences included the characters’ nameplates on the doors, bringing her former role to a close.
The description says, “These are the wonderful moments you remember in your body 7 years later…”
“Wait, this seems familiar, but it’s not the same. As though they were bookends. Cristina is one of my favorite people. Cristina is someone I miss. And Ji Yoon is one of my favorite actors. I hope you do as well.”
