Arrival of the Presidents
Some heads of state and government have begun preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday 7 January 2021.
Those who have already arrived: President Oumarou Sissoko Embalo of Guinea-Bissau, President George Oppong Oua of Liberia and Vice-President Bernito de Souza of Angola.
They were greeted by the Chief Minister, Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo, upon their arrival in the VVIP lounge at Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
To date, twelve Heads of State and Government have confirmed their presence at the inauguration of President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President-elect Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
They are the Heads of State of Senegal, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone, Chad and Niger.
The other countries that will be represented by their foreign ministers are Nigeria, Gambia, India, France and Rwanda.
Other foreign dignitaries who have confirmed their presence include the British Secretary of State for Africa, the United States Special Representative for the Sahel, the Chairman of the ECOWAS Commission, the Chairman of the African Union Commission and representatives of the CDU and Germany’s allies.
All foreign delegations attending the ceremony must submit a negative PCR test result 72 hours prior to arrival in Ghana.
The Secretary of State and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, and the chairman of the subcommittee inaugurating the presidential transition team, said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
She explained that, in accordance with the 2012 Presidential Transitional Law (Law 845), the committee worked with the parliamentary leadership to ensure the success of the ceremony.
Mrs Bochway said that the elected president and the elected vice-president will take the oath in Parliament, in accordance with the 1992 Constitution.
All guests must be seated at 9.45 a.m. so that the ceremony can start at 11 a.m. on time.
Mrs Botchway stated that, in accordance with the COWID-19 Protocols, all necessary measures will be taken to ensure the health and safety of all participants.

If you do not have an invitation to the ceremony, you can watch it in your own home, as it will be broadcast live on state television, GTV and all major television and radio stations, on Botchway’s advice.
Some 6,000 security officers were deployed to ensure security and maintain public order during the presidential elections.
